Camp Bratton-Green
Camp Bratton-Green (CBG) is a summer camp of the Episcopal Diocese of Mississippi, in Way, Mississippi (1530 Way Rd.). It is a program of the Duncan M. Gray Center. The Rev. Chip Davis has been executive director since 2022, along with Cathy Davis. There are several buildings at camp, including the admin building, the rec hall, the dining hall, the chapel, the shop, the arts and crafts shack, and six functional cabins (Cabins 1, 2, 3, A, B, and C).
History and Name
The first Episcopal summer camp in MS was held in 1924 on the Mississippi coast. Camp Bratton-Green received its name in honor of then-Bishop Theodore Dubose Bratton and his successor, Bishop William Mercer Green. The current grounds were opened in 1946 in Rose Hill.
Summer Camp
Since 2022, summer camp has lasted 6 weeks, consisting of 2 special sessions and 4 regular sessions. Daily activity programming is planned and organized by the Permanent Staff, while themes, volunteer staff, and night activities are planned and organized by the volunteer directors.
Winter Solstice
Winter Solstice is an annual event at camp from Dec 27 through Jan 1, started by Richard Lawrence. The staff is all volunteer.
Youth Events
There is one regularly scheduled youth event at camp called DOY or Division of Youth.
Other Events
Camp also frequently hosts parish retreats for churches around the state. There are also work weekends once a semester or more, organized by the alumni association.
