Before CBG was founded, the Gray Center area was part of Allison's Wells. Founded in the 1830s, Alison's Wells eventually became a permanent tourist destination. The area boasted bathhouses and hotels, among other things. The waters also had supposed healing powers. The wells burned down in 1912 after a slow decline in popularity.
